(Alex and Ellen enter the kitchen arguing)
Ellen: "Alex,you are nothing but a selfish, pigheaded republican!"
Alex: "I am not! Your the one who's selfish!"
Ellen: " That's not true! For once why can't we do something I want to do!
I really wanted to be with you tonight! I thought we could see a movie or
something!"
Alex: (He takes her hands into his) "Ellen, why can't you understand? I
really need to go to the Republican meeting tonight."
Ellen: "Alex, you've gone three nights in a row!"
Alex: (Alex shrugs) "So?"
Ellen: "They're teaching the same thing every night!"
Alex: "Well,I like it and I'm going to it!"
Ellen: "Fine! Then I'm leaving!"
(As she turns from him he sees tears in her eyes)
Alex: "Ellen, come on! Don't leave!"
Ellen: "All I wanted to do was spend some time with my boyfriend. I thought
he'd want to spend some time with me,but I guess I was wrong!"
Alex: "Ellen..."
(The door slams)
(Alex runs his hands through his hair, frustrated)
Alex: "I better get ready for the meeting."
Later that evening...
Alex comes down the stairs and is met by four solemn faces.
Alex: "What's the matter guys? You seem upset."
Steve: "Alex, you better sit down."
Alex: "Dad, I think I can handle this. I'll take it like a man standing.
Besides it certainly can't be too bad."
Steve: (Steve sighs) "Okay Alex...Ellen's been in a car accident."
