Scene 1
It is 3:30 AM in the Keaton's house. Mallory is walking up the stairs when she
hears strugling noises in Alex's room. She walks to the door and opens it just
in time to see a masked man hold a glistening knife above his head tehn plunge
it deep into Alex's chest!
Mallory: (high piched and terrified) AHHHHHHHHH!!
(Steven, Elyse, and Jennifer run out of their rooms half asleep)
Steven: (rubbing his eyes) What! What is it!
Mallory: (panacky) I. I saw a man stab Alex!
Elyse: (confused) What?!
Steven: I'm sure you were imagining things but all the same i'll check.
(Steven goes into Alex's room)
Jennifer: are you sure of what you saw Mallory. Maybe it was a dream.
Mallory: (crying) i'm Possitive!
(Steven comes out of Alex's room a shocked look on his white face)
Elyse: What is it, honey?(she trys to go into Alex's room, but Steven stops her)
Steven: don't go in there!
(Elyse's eyes widen)
Elyse: What's in there
Steven: Alex (takes a deep breath) Alex is......dead.
(he looks at Elyse with tears in his eyes)
Elyse: AHHHHHHH!!
(Elyse slumps to the ground)
scene 2
A perametic (Charles) walks out of Alex's room. People are milling around.
Policemen, perametics, and everything else. Mallory and Jennifer are trying to
get Elyse to snap out of it. She is in shock.
Charles: Mr. Keaton i need to talk to you.
(steven and charles walk over out of ear shot of Mallory and Jennifer)
Steven: what is it?
Charles: I really don't know how to tell you this but you son is de....
(a perametic (Lucy) yells from inside the room)
Lucy: charles come here. Quick!
(charles and steven look at each other. charles runs into the room and steven
follows)
Lucy: (excitedly) charles listen to this!
(lucy puts a set of headphone like things on charles that are hooked up to a
machine that is placed on Alex's chest. charles takes the headphones off with a
shocked look on his face and turns to get steven(who he doesn't know is already
in there)
Charles: Stev! (he turns and almost runs into him) listen to this!
(steven puts the phones on)
Steven: (excitedly) it sounds like a heartbeat!
Charles: Ya!
Steven: well that meens he is alive! right?!
Lucy: well he could be alive now, but i doubt he will survive. The knife only
misses his heart by a fraction of centimeter. So don't tell the missus or the
kids.
Charles: Ya you don't want to get their hopes up. Especially your wife she
looks pretty bad.
Lucy: (yelling) Beka, get an ambulence here. NOW!!
(Beka another perametic talks into her microphone)
(Steven leans down be Alex's bed adn strokes his hair and takes his hand)
Steven: I love you son. you have to live.
scene 3
Two perametics take Ales out on a stretcher. Mallory stands up from where she is
trying to get Elyse to come to and looks after her brother as Steven walks out
of Alex's room.
Mallory: Dad?
Steven: What is it, hun?
Mallory: I just can't believe it. I mean Alex is dead and what happens if mom
never snaps out of it. (crying) it's just so hard to believe he's really dead.
Now i wish i had been nicer to him?
(steven hugs Mallory)
Steven: It's ok honey. (steven kisses her head) he knows you loved him.
Jennifer: Dad i'm scared. What if that mean old person comes back for us!
Steven: he won't but all the same i think i'll call an investigator tomarrow.
but for now lets all go down stairs i don't think any of us will get much more
sleep tonight.
(steven picks up Elyse who is still in shock and carries her down stairs
followed by Mallory and Jennifer.)
scene 4
2 weeks later. Alex is still in the hospital and surprising ly still alive but
in critical condithion. Elyse is still in shock and has not talked since Alex's
"death." Mallory, Jennifer and Elyse still think Alex is dead and Steven trys to
scead out of the house to see him as often as possible. it is 8:00 AM and
Mallory and Jennifer are getting ready for school and Steven for work when the
phone rings.
Phone: ring ring
(steven answers phone)
Steven: hello
Dr. McFly: Mr. Keaton this is Dr. McFly, Alex's doctor.
Steven: yes i know.
Dr. McFly: We are taking Alex into surgery again. We don't know what happened
but he just took a drastic turn for the worst.
Steven: (shakely) what.. what happened?
Dr. McFly: We don't know. his blood pressure has shot up and we can't hardly
find a heartbeat.
Steven: (flately) oh.
Dr. McFly: Mr. Keaton listen were doing everything we can. i for one have really
gotten fond of that kid adn i know the nurses love him. But i am really
surprised he's lived this long. When they brought him in i thought he would be
gon by morning.
Stevne: (flately) he's a nice kid.
Dr. McFly: Yes he is and he's got a great will to live. I know the surgery
sounds pretty serious but your son is very special. I can't make any promices
but i think he will pull though.
Steven: i hope so i don't know what i'd do it i lost him.
Dr. McFly: (nervously) you haven't told your wife or daughters, have you!
Steven: No of course not. My wife is still in shock.
Dr. McFly: Thats good. Well i just wanted to call and get your permission for
the sergury.
Steven: of course. Do what ever it takes just keep Alex alive.
Dr. McFly: We'll try our best. Good by.
(steven hangs up phone and Mallory walks down the stairs)
Mallory: Who was on the phone?
Steven: (nervously) Uh, Reagan.
Mallory: (excitedly) Reagan.. you mean like presedent Reagan!
Steven: Ya you know how good of friends he was with Alex. You know he voted for
him and all.
Mallory: Alex was only 15 he was to young to vote.
Steven: (nervously) Oh, ya, well, he would of.... if he
could.
Mallory: (suspitiosly) ya, sure.
(Jennifer walks down the stairs)
Jennifer: ok dad lets go!
Steven: go where?
Jennifer: to school. You know he have school on Fridays.
Steven: Oh honey i forgot i told Gus i'd he in at work early today! (Steven
looks at Mallory) Mallory, you take her.
Mallory: (alarmed) but i can't drive!
Steven: what better way to learn! go to it kid! ( he tosses the keys at her.
Mallory looks at the keys and walks out the door with Jennifer a dumbfounded
look on her face) (steven grabs another set of keys and his coat and hurries out
the door.)
scene 5
Steven walks into the hospital lobby hoping to catch Alex before they take him
to surgery.
Steven: exuse me! Exuse me, miss! (steven grabs a nurses arm)
Nurse: yes sir
Steven: do you know ir Alex Keaton is in surgery yet.
Nurse: yes sir you just missed him. (she leaves) (steven leaves to hospital)
scene 6
Steven went to work after he left the hospital and came home. it is now 2:50 AM
and everybody is asleep when the phone rings.
Phone: ring ring
Steven: (grogily) hello
Dr. McFly: (excitedly and nervously) Steven it's Dr. McFly.
Steven: What.....whats the matter. did the surgery go ok.
Dr. McFly: yes it went fine. but something has come up i think you better get
down here imidiately.
Steven: Alex! is he .....dead!
Dr. McFly: no but get down here fast.
(Dr. McFly hangs up) (steven is pulling on some cloths when mallory walks in)
Mallory: (seriously) Dad.
Steven: Mal.. Mallory what are you doing up?
Mallory: I'm coming with you!
Steven: (stops what he is doing) What!
Mallory: I know Alex is alive i know he's at the hospital, and i know your going
to see him.
Steven: (eyes wide) how do you know!!!
Mallory: I've suspected something from the first day. you seened alot more
relaxed that if he was really dead.
Steven: (shocked) alright you can come.
Mallory: (angrily) why didn't you tell us. you know he is our brother too!
Steven: i know..... i know i guess i just didn't want you to have to loose him
again.
Mallory: it's ok dad (she hugs him)
Steven: (looks at watch) we have to be going. get dressed.
Mallory: i already am. (she takes of her robe)
Steven: ok lets go.
(they exit)
scene 7
Steven and Mallory walk into the hospital and look arould. a nurse (lesley) runs
up to them.
Lesley: Mr. Keaton?
Steven: yes is Alex alright!
Mallory: i'm his sister is he alive?
lesley: yes but barely. Dr. McFly is back with him now. He wants you to come
back, but only one of you. Doc thinks that might revive Alex.
(Steven turns and looks at Mallory)
Steven: i'll go.
(Lesley leads Steven to room 13 and opens the door. inside lays Alex. A woman
is pumping his chest and a man is hooking up an IV. Dr. McFly is writhing on a
note pad. he looks up and sees Steven.)
Dr. McFly: (excitedly) Steven i'm glad you could come. (points to man hooking up
IV) this is Doc Brown. (Doc Brown waves) (points to woman punping ALex's chest)
and this is Marissa Foxx.
Steven: what happened? is he dieing?
Dr. McFly: Steven i don't know how to say this, but he is going down hill
rapidly. he was doing better but now....(points to Alex)
Steven: (chokes) I see.
(steven kneels by Alex's bed and takes his little limp hand)
Steven: (trying not to cry) Alex, i love you more than anything in the world.
Please honey, please i'll do anything just please don't die. Ill...i'll give you
money, i'll do you chores, i'll......I will be a Republican just please (takes a
deep breath) please don't die.
(suddenly the machine that tells the heartbeat stops)
Doc Brown: (shouting at nurse) do something we've lost him!!
Steven: oh, no! (alex's hand falls limp and steven falls to his knees in sobs)
scene 8
6 hours later. Steven adn Mallory have gone home and are preparing the funeral.
meenwhile at the hospital they haven't taken Alex's body to the morgue yet, or
even unhooked the machines. A cleaning lady (Muriel Paul) is cleaning around the
bed when suddenly a noise domes from the heart machine! Muriel stops her
cleaning and looks at it curiously and then at alex. Suddely, a heartbeat starts
it gets more and more until it is like a normal person's heartbeat. Muriel's
eyes get wider and wider and then suddely she screams.
Muriel: AHHHHHHH!! somebody help!! he's ALIVE!!!
(Dr. McFly runs into the room)
Dr. McFly: (angrily) whats going on in here!
Muriel: (stamering) he....he.....he's alive!
(Dr. McFly looks at her then at the machine then at Alex)
Dr. McFly: what in the name of all that is good and pure is going on here?!
(Dr. McFly turns to the intercom and picks it up)
Dr. McFly: Doc Brown i think you better look at this.
(Doc Brown walks in casually)
Doc Brown: whats going on.
Dr. McFly: thats what i would like to know. look. (he points at the machine)
Doc Brown: what in the...thats impossibe..isn't it!
Dr. McFly: i thought so. (turns to Muriel) quick get Steven Keaton!
(Muriel picks up the phone and diles. the phone rings and steven picks up.)
Muriel: Steven Keaton?
Steven:yes
Muriel: this is the hospital get down here quick Alex is Alive!
Steven: what i wa swith him when he died.
Muriel: I know but he's (looks at Alex) Alive!
(Muriel slams down phone)
(Alex stirs and opens his eyes)
Alex: (grogily)who, what, where am I?
(Muriel bend down slowly and strokes Alex's hair)
Muriel: (comfortingly) your in the hospital dear. you were stabed.
Alex: (starts to sit up but can't) where ... (sighs) where are my parents?
Doc Brown: there on their way son.
Dr. McFly: your mother has been in a shock since the night you were stabed
almost 2 weeks ago.
Alex: (surprised and still groggy) 2 weeks! you meen i've been out of it for two
weeks!
Muriel: ya we thought you were dead, in fact you were dead but......
(steven, mallory, and jennifer barge though the door)
Mallory: (her eyes big) your....alive?!
(steven bends down by Alex's bed)
Steven: but i don't understand. he was dead.
Dr. McFly: ya Mr. Keaton i know.
Muriel: it's like...like a mirracle or something.
(Doc Brown looks at Alex)
Doc Brown: Now i guess, i know there is someone looking out for us. i mean in
all the years i've been a doctor nothing like this had ever happened before!
Alex: Dad, the elections are comeing up. Don't you want to keep your promise and
change to Republican.
Steven: (surprised) you heard that!
Alex: ya i heard everything. i was just so druged out of my mind i couldn't
answer.
(steven has a shocked look on his face)
Dr. McFly: Is your wife here Steven. maybe seeing him or hearing his voice will
snap her out of it.
Jennifer: ya you might be right.
(steven exits to get Elyse)
Alex: what do you mean mom's in a shock?
Mallory: you'll see in a minute.
(steven renters with Elyse in a wheel chair. he wheels her over to Alex)
Steven: Honey, listen to me. Alex (points to him) is not dead he is alive.
(no responce)
Mallory: Alex say something.
Alex: Mom.. Mom if you can hear me listen. i am alive.
(Elyse's eyes snap and her head turns)
Alex: mom, are you ok?
Elyse: oh honey, your alive. (she throughs her arms around her son)
Elyse: I love you soooooo much!
Alex: I love you too, mom. i really do. ( Alex chokes and wipes a tear from his
eye.)
Steven: (looks at Elyse and Alex) comeon everybody. lets leave these two alone.
(Steven, mallory, jennifer, Dr. McFly, Doc Brown, and Muriel all leave.)
(Elyse lets go of Alex and sees he is crying)
Elyse: are you ok?
Alex: (trying not to cry) yes.
Elyse: you had a pretty big scare.
Alex: I know i almost came face to face with the "grim reaper". Mom i don't know
what to do, i'm scared and confused. (alarmed) what if that guy comes back to
finish me off.
(Alex covers his face with his hands and turns away from Elyse) (Elyse looks
at her son who's shoulders heave with sobs)
Elyse: (comfortingly) come here baby. it will be ok.
(Elyse gently takes Alex by the shoulders and brings him to her.) (Alex turns
his tear stained face toward his mother)
Alex: I love you mom. (Alex throughs his arms around Elyse's neck)
Elyse: I love to honey. just get better. (ELyse hugs Alex tighter and strokes
his hair.)
scene 9
12 hours later. Elyse is sitting by the bed holding Alex's hand and stroking his
head (which is in her lap) After everybody had left except Elyse, Alex had cried
himself to sleep on Elyse's lap. Now Steven walks into the room.
Steven: Come on Elyse lets go. I just paid and we're ready to roll.
(Steven looks at alex in Elyse's arms)
Steven: are you going to be ok.
Elyse: ya. i just can't help thinking how close we came to losing him forever.
Steven: i know hun i know but he's on his way to getting better. so don't worry.
Elyse: i know i shouldn't worry, but i'm a mother thats my job.
(a nurse (Lesley) walks in)
Lesley: ok wisiting hours are over. you both can come back tomorrow. we need to
let Alex get some rest.
Elyse: i know he were just going.
(Elyse bends down an kisses Alex on the top of his head and Steven lifts him
back into bed)
Elyse: we'll see you tomarrow, baby.
Alex: (sleepily) uh hu.
scene 10
one month later. Alex is better enough to go home, but not completely yet.
steven, Elyse, mallory, Jennifer and Skippy are comeing to pick him up from the
hospital. they walk into the lobby and steven walks up to the dest.
Steven: hi i'm steven keaton and i'm here to pick up...
(the woman at the counter (Samantha) smiles)
Samantha: oh yes Alex's dad. i'll be right back. you know he is our favorite
pacient.
(jennifer walkes up behind steven)
Jennifer: he's our favorite brother too.
(Dr. McFly wheels Alex in. Alex is in a wheel chair.)
Dr. McFly: Mr and Mrs Keaton i see you've come for Alex. We've given him a
shower and fed him. he's ready to go.
Alex: hi Mom, dad, jennifer, mallory and skippy.
(muriel walks up behind them)
Muriel: well if it isn't "miracle kid" and his parents. hi Alex.
Alex: hi Murt.
Elyse: well Muriel i never got to thank you for finding our son alive.
Muriel: oh no problem miss keaton. i was much obliged to do it. you know i've
never seen the "living dead" before.
Elyse: ALex you ready to go home.
Alex: yes, get me out of here before feeding time. hospital food is terrable.
sometimes i think i rather would have died.
Mallory: ha ha lets go. i wanted to see a movie tonight.
Skippy: hey mallory would you be obliged to go with me.
Mallory: (mallory looks at skippy then at Alex) maybe we can hire that guy to
stab me. (makes a face at skippy)
(steven turns to Dr. McFly)
Steven: thank you Dr. McFly, for everything.
Dr. McFly: please call me Marty.
Steven: ok Marty thank you again with out you Alex might be dead right now.
Marty: oh Mr. keaton it wasn't me. i didn't before but now i definatly believe
there is a God.
Steven: well i guess i have to agree.
Elyse: Steven (she points at her watch0
Alex: yes lets get out of here. i really hate this place but i have to admit i
really am going to miss you guys.
Muriel: and we're going to miss you. ALot!
(Elyse grabs Alex's wheel chair)
Alex: by. i'm really going to miss you Muriel.
Muriel: i know. (she wipes a tear off Alex's cheek)
Marty: you've come a long way but there is still a long way to go. i with you
the best of luck, all of you.
Alex: thank you. (elyse puches Alex toward the door)
Marty McFly: maybe our paths will cross again sometime in the Future.
Alex: ya the very distant Furure. (the Keaton's leave and it fades out)
